Obituary For Robert A. Charleston, Jr.

Robert A. Charleston, Jr., age 69 of Hot Springs, SD, passed away on November 17, 2023 at Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Bob was born in Harvey, IL to Robert Sr. and Margaret Bott Charleston on September 17, 1954. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and served in the Air Force for eight years, honorably discharged in 1981 having served in the field of space communications. Bob went to work for Hughes Aircraft in Aurora, CO and was united in marriage to Mary Jo Alfred that year. Throughout his adult life, he was involved in volunteer fire and rescue, Civil Air Patrol, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and he was a proud life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. His Hobbies and interests included hiking, hunting, fishing, downhill skiing, and camping. Bob was never without the company of a faithful canine companion during his adult life.

Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Jo, daughter Jodi (Michael) Schaus, granddaughter Anastasia, one brother (Dan), and three sisters (Marianne, Denise and Donna). He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister (Barbara).

Per Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. The body will be cremated, with dispersal of ashes at a later date by the family. On-line condolences can be left at www.behrenswilson.com.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to friends and neighbors for their support and prayers, and to the staff of Monument Hospice House in Rapid City who provided comfort and care as Bob battled his final days with pancreatic cancer.
