Obituary For Robert D. Cranmore Sr.

Robert Dwane Cranmore Sr., 88, of Piedmont, SD, was called home on Friday, March 10th, 2023.

Dwane, as he was known, was born January 1, 1935, to Clifford and Fern Cranmore in Ogallala, NE. He was the first baby born that year and received the New Year baby gifts and accolades.

After High School, Dwane traveled the country helping to plant churches. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Marlene Stephenson. They married five years late on November 8, 1959. Dwane and Marlene welcomed their son, Robert Dwane Cranmore Jr. to the world on April 18, 1964.

Dwane was a hard worker; he started in the warehouse of Nash finch and worked his way up to running the computer room. He retired after 32 years. He then went to work at Walmart, so he wouldn’t get ‘lazy’. He was with them for 11 years when he left to care for Marlene who had fallen ill, at home.

He loved the Lord and worked hard his entire life. He played a huge role in the lives of his grandchildren. He was the kindest and most patient man there ever was. He could cook, bake, fix hair, and crack jokes. “I got you guys some cookies, but I ate them all.” And he really had. So many funny stories like that. He will always be remembered for his love, patience, calm gentleness, and sense of humor.

Dwane is survived by his son Robert (Sheri) Cranmore, of Piedmont, SD; sister Betty Woods of Parsons, KS; sister Lois (Jerry) DeMuth of Blair, NE. Grandchildren Matthew(Catalina) Cranmore, William (Linzey) Cranmore, Paiglyn Cranmore and Angelene Cranmore. Great grandchildren Aspen, Matthew Jr., Levi, Vera and one on the way!

He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene; his parents Clifford and Fern; and his brother Kenneth.

The family wishes to thank Pastor Wes for visiting him and praying with him. Janice, for taking such loving care of him when she visited the house, and the staff of The Hospice House for being so kind and compassionate not only to Dwane but the family as well.
