Obituary For Robert Lyle Steele
Robert (Bob) Lyle Steele, age 71, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away in his home on January 29, 2021 in Rapid City, South Dakota surrounded by his family and friends.
Bob was born in Huron, South Dakota to Wesley and Edna Steele on November 15, 1949. They moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1949. He attended school in Rapid City. After high school, Bob joined the Army in 1966 serving several tours in Vietnam. After he was discharged from the Army, he joined the Air Force in 1971. Bob completed 20 years and 8 months in the Air Force and retired in 1988. During his years of military service, he was awarded numerous medals. In 1988, Bob returned to Rapid City. He worked for Raytheon and Coca-Cola and other employers in the area before retiring to be a full-time grandpa.
Bob is survived by his four children: Kristal (Waldo) Lopez, Nila Steele, Rob Steele, and Justin (Heidi) Steele; his grand-children: Andrew Elms-Crowson, Briana (Justin) Miller, Ashly (Tyler) Brant, Samantha (Daniel) Voss, Michael (Jenn) Hughes, Robert (Kalin) Holter, Isaac (Julie) Crowson, Jacob Crowson, Danica Steele, Aunika Steele, Tyleigh Norman, Rhys Steele, Knox Steele, and Kyra Steele; his great-grandchildren: Karolynn Voss, Easton Hughes, AJ Fullen, Aeris Voss, and DJ Voss; and his siblings Wes (Sharon) Steele and Tom (Luanne) Steele, Susan (Rich) Mulz, and Kenny Steele. Bob is preceded in death by his parents: Wesley Steele, Edna and Bill O’Banion; his grand-daughter Aurora Yerden; and his siblings Nyla, Billy and Leslie Steele.
Bob lived a full life and was a hero to his family and all his friends. If anyone he knew needed something, Bob was always there to help in whatever capacity was required, whether it was money or the shirt off his back. Bob tried to teach his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren to be honest and loving one another, valued their education and strongly encouraged each of them to embrace his love of reading. He loved hunting, camping, and fishing, with his love of the outdoors drawing him closer to God and his family. Bob was a wonderful brother, uncle, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and neighbor. Bob will be missed very much.
