Roy A. Mapel passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024 at Primrose Retirement Community in Gillette.

Roy was born July 5, 1934 to Norman and Mary Mapel. Roy, a Gillette native is best remembered as the General Manager of Gillette Broadcasting Company, which operated KIML AM Radio and KAML FM Radio. Starting on September 13, 1957 Roy was the Voice of the Camels, broadcasting the live football and basketball games for Campbell County High School for many decades.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Mary, his brother Terry, and his longtime friends Don Dickey and Don Cale. He is survived by his high-school sweetheart, and wife of over 71 years, Rosemary Mapel, his son Ray Mapel (Karen) of Gillette, daughter Renee (Greg) Mellinger of Rio Rancho, NM, Grandsons Tyler Swann of CO, Nick Swann of Illinois, Granddaughters Tia Knapp of Gillette and Sarah Joseph of Loveland, CO, 3 greatgrandchildren and many close friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 2:00pm at Primrose Retirement Community, Pastor Don Wight of Calvary Community Church officiating.
