Obituary For Theodore E. 'Ted' Schmidt

On September 9th 2024, the world lost an incredible father, a wonderful man, and an overall amazing
human. Theodore “Ted” Schmidt, born March 27th 1951 in Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away at the
home he shared with the love of his life, Laberta “Bert” Edwards, until her passing in 2009.

When Ted met Bert he knew after their very first date that she was the woman he wanted to spend his life
with and he made sure that’s exactly what they did. Bert and Ted were blessed with one remarkable son,
Rick “Ricky” Schmidt and although they did not have any more biological children they took in and cared for many children over the years as well as helping raise several of their nieces and nephews.

Ted served in the U. S. Air Force right after high school and then transitioned to the South Dakota Army National Guard. After his service he followed his passion of driving semi-trucks by working for Nash Finch, Heavy Construction, and JJ Asphalt. At this time, despite a busy schedule, he also worked as a volunteer firefighter for the Piedmont Fire Department, because helping others has always been close to Ted’s heart. During Ted's free time he enjoyed hanging out with his son, usually working on vehicles or model trains, watching classic movies, and listening to old school country music.

Throughout his life Ted taught and shared life skills with many children, never saw a need he didn’t attempt to meet, and never met a stranger.

Ted is survived by his son, Rick Schmidt (wife Theresa), nieces/daughters Sabrina Stewart, Selina
(Stewart/Wertman) Gray, and Rowena (Stewart) Arthurs, adopted sons Travis Russell and Jason Alderink, grandchildren Bailey, Brandan, James, Spencer, Lana, Christian, Derek, and many others who call him dad, all of whom will never forget him and all he has done for them.

Ted is preceded in death by both of his parents, both of his in-laws, and his loving wife of 46 years.

Some grade school (Dunn Elementary) friends and I were just talking about "Teddy" the other day, wondering what had happened to him. I decided to search for him, and this popped up. I'm so sorry for your loss and so happy that Ted had such a happy life. Prayers to you and your family.
