Obituary For Vera Helen Mason
Vera Helen Mason, 94, died on March 3, 2021 at Monument Health Hospice House in Rapid City, South Dakota. Vera H. Mason was a very caring and loving mother who was always there to help. She had an abundance of advice and wisdom. All, especially her children and grandchildren, will sorrowfully miss her.
Youngest daughter of John J. Moore and Mary (Cody) Moore of Highmore, SD. She was born November 19, 1926.
She received all 12 years of her schooling in Highmore, graduating High School in 1945. She was employed at Igloo, S.D., Post Office, Highmore AAA Triple A office, and Millard Keil General Service Garage.
On June 29, 1947 she was united in marriage to Raymond (Smoky) Mason. To this union four children were born, Sandra, Randy, Gary, Lori (Conger).
In 1951 she, her husband and daughter- Sandra moved to Rapid City, S.D., where Smoky was employed as an electrician.
In 1960 she helped organize and Electrician Auxiliary to Local 1250 IBEW of which she was a charter member. She served in all of the offices of this Auxiliary. In 1968 was elected President of AFLCIO South Dakota Council of Auxiliaries.
Very active in COPE (Committee of Political Education).
1970\'s served on the committee for Racial Reconciliations, was appointed by Mayor Don Barnett. Served many years on the Electrician Board for General, Primary School and City Elections.
Member of 1273 VFW Auxiliary since 1971.
In 1981 she and her husband joined the Black Hills Dance Club. She enjoyed many festivals in and out of S.D.
She enjoyed the role of being Grandma to her grandchildren and \"adopted\" Grandma to the neighbor children. In 1988 her first Grandson - Samuel T. Conger was born. He was later joined by LaRae (Derik) Wendt and Ariel, Franklin, Brian and Richard Conger. Due to illness, Franklin passed away at the age of 6 months. She embraced her role as \"Great Grandma Vera\" to Ella and Lucas Wendt and Tashton and Vivienne Conger.
Smoky and Vera celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 29th 1997 with family and friends.
Family birthdays, holidays and family outings in the Black Hills were a special time for her. She so enjoyed her home, flowers and especially the pet dogs and cats.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Martin and Everett, sister Dorothy, husband Raymond (Smoky), Grandson Franklin Conger, daughters Lori A. Conger and Sandra K. Mason and son Gary Mason.
