Obituary For Walter 'Rusty' E. Rustad

Walter Edward Rustad "Rusty"

Rusty passed away on January 2, 2025, at his home in Sheridan, Wyoming. Rusty was born on August 26, 1935 to Edward and Ida Rustad in Rolette, North Dakota. Rusty grew up in Rolette and graduated from Rolette high school. He joined the Army for a brief time. After the military Rusty worked for Peter Kiewit Construction as a heavy equipment mechanic.

In 1973 Rusty met his beloved wife Fern and were married in August 3, 1974. Rusty and Fern moved to Ranchester, Wyoming where he worked for Decker Coal mine as a heavy equipment mechanic. After many years of working at Decker Coal mine Rusty started his own pilot car service. Retiring from working Rusty and Fern retired to their home of 40 years in Ranchester, Wyoming.

Rusty never seen a John Deere tractor toy he never loved. Rusty was a collector of many things. He liked to help the neighborhood kids fix up their bicycles and if they didn't have one, he would give them one he had fixed up.

Rusty is preceded in death by his beloved wife Fern, his parents Edward and Ida Rustad, several siblings Edward, Adeline, Nora, Arla, Cora and Twila, and his daughter Jerri Cruz. Rusty is survived by his son Allen Munson of Rapid City, South Dakota, and daughter Kathreen Bodell of Rapid City, South Dakota, and a sister Aileen Morrison of Michigan, and several grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Services for Rusty will be held at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home 632 Saint Francis St., Rapid City, South Dakota on Saturday, January 18, 2024 at 2:00PM followed by burial at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, 4301 Tower Rd., Rapid City, South Dakota.

    I am so honored to have an Uncle like you. I will always remember the special name you called me since I was a little girl, Squeaky, and then Little one. I will cherish all of the many years we have kept in touch by writing letter to each other, to keep up on our family. God sure Blessed so many lives with you Uncle Walter.
