Obituary For William George Brumbaugh

William George Brumbaugh, 81, passed away at Monument Health on Sunday, December 19, 2021. William George Brumbaugh was born on the family farm in New Creek Bottom southwest of Platte, South Dakota to George Ellsworth Brumbaugh and Myrtle Winifred (Butchel) Brumbaugh, on October 2, 1940. He grew up in Platte area and joined the Army Nation Guard in 1956 while still in high school with his fathers permission. After graduating from high school he spent the summer working on the farm then, enlisted in the Air Force the fall of 1958. He was stationed at numerous bases in the United States and overseas, served one tour in Vietnam as medic. He retired from Ellsworth Air Force Base in 1978 with over 20 of years honorable service. He married Marilyn (Johnson) Brumbaugh on Valentine’s Day 1979 and they celebrated 42 years of marriage on February 14, 2021. The couple made their home in Rapid City, where William worked at the Rapid City Region hospital for 27 years before retiring in 2006. Over the years, William enjoyed reading, he favored western novels. He was a member of the Rapid City American Legion, VFW, Moose Lodge and Lions Club where he served as president for many years. William and Marilyn enjoyed dancing at the Moose Lodge on Friday and Saturday nights.

William is survived by his wife Marilyn Brumbaugh of Rapid City; five step children, Charles White, Tammy Lindquist, Mary White, Lisa White and Kenneth McCourry of Rapid City, SD; 2 grandsons and 5 granddaughters; 7 great grandchildren; one brother, Donald Brumbaugh of Albuquerque, NM, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his first wife Marion Damboise; his parents, George and Myrtle; his brothers Bruce, Melvin Dean, Russell, Frances and Roy, and step son David White.
